Posthumus Institute is hosting the masterclass \u2018A place in the city. Migrant police, policy &amp; housing in the 19th and 20th centuries\u2019, delivered by <a href=\"https:\/\/telemme.mmsh.fr\/?membres=celine-regnard\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dr. C\u00e9line Regnard<\/a> (Aix-Marseille Universit\u00e9) on 10 May 2023 at Antwerp University.<\/p>\n<h2>About the speaker<\/h2>\n<p>C\u00e9line Regnard is a lecturer in modern history at the Aix-Marseille Universit\u00e9, and director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/rmtelemme.fr\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Maison m\u00e9diterran\u00e9enne des sciences de l&#8217;homme at l&#8217;UMR TELEMMe<\/a>. She has written extensively on the history of migration, crime and labor in the modern period, with most recently a book on transnational history of Syrian transit migration, <em>En Transit. Les Syriens \u00e0 Beyrouth, Marseilles, Le Havre, New York (1880-1914)<\/em> (Anamosa, 2022).<\/p>\n<h2>Aims of the masterclass<\/h2>\n<p>The aim of the masterclass is to discuss (post-)doctoral research on the place of migrants in the 19th and 20th century city through 3 interlinked perspectives: police, policy and housing. During the masterclass a maximum of 5 participants can present their work through a short presentation (c. 10 minutes). The presentation should include the basic premises of the research, as well as some points of discussion (both difficulties and possible opportunities).<\/p>\n<h2>How to participate<\/h2>\n<p>Early Career Researchers working on migration in the nineteenth and twentieth century are invited to apply by sending an abstract (c. 300 words) <strong>before 24 March 2023<\/strong> to organiser <a href=\"mailto:jasper.segerink@uantwerpen.be\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jasper Segerink<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Selected candidates will be notified by 31 March 2023.
