Posthumus Institute by his colleague Daniel Gallardo Albarr\u00e1n. The N.W. Posthumus Institute is very grateful to Pim voor his efforts for the Research Network and for the N.W. Posthumus Institute over the past years and of course welcomes Daniel as new coordinator.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel currently works as assistant professor at the Economic and Environmental History Group at Wageningen University Research. His research focuses on the historical roots of global health inequality and their implications for global welfare disparities. His publications consider the <a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/full\/10.1111\/ehr.12942\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">effect of sanitary infrastructures on public health<\/a>; the impact of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cambridge.org\/core\/journals\/journal-of-economic-history\/article\/demographic-effects-of-colonialism-forced-labor-and-mortality-in-java-18341879\/8263BFDEC1A77EA9B92BBCABC278F4F9#metrics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Dutch colonialism on health outcomes in Java<\/a>;\u00a0the link between health and welfare (<a href=\"https:\/\/academic.oup.com\/ereh\/advance-article\/doi\/10.1093\/ereh\/heaa002\/5827898\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">19th <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0014498317301973\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">20th <\/a>century); <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S1570677X18301242\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">and how health improves productivity<\/a>. Also, he studied the determinants of economic performance (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1080\/03585522.2014.949840\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">19th <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/full\/10.1111\/joes.12374\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">20th <\/a>century). Currently, he is conducting two projects. The first considers the determinants of clean water, sanitation since 1850 from a global perspective and it is funded by the Dutch Research Council. The second analyses the uneven establishment of healthcare and sanitation in colonial Africa, ca 1900-1960, funded by the Swedish Research Council.
