{"id":6337,"date":"2025-05-19T14:19:01","date_gmt":"2025-05-19T12:19:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/posthumusinstitute.org\/?p=6337"},"modified":"2025-05-19T14:19:01","modified_gmt":"2025-05-19T12:19:01","slug":"event-legacy-transtitions-uu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/posthumusinstitute.leidenuniv.nl\/?p=6337","title":{"rendered":"Talk and Film Screening on &#8216;Legacy and transitions: Rotterdam\u2019s port in a global sustainability context&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 2 June 2025, the <a href=\"https:\/\/deeptransitions.net\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Deep Transitions Lab<\/a> (supported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uu.nl\/en\/organisation\/centre-for-global-challenges\/welcome-to-the-uglobe-website\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">UGlobe<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uu.nl\/en\/research\/institutions-for-open-societies\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Strategic Theme Institutions for Open Societies<\/a> of Utrecht University), organises an event on the theme &#8216;Legacy and transitions: Rotterdam\u2019s port in a global sustainability context&#8217;, addressing both its history and the challenges it faces in transitioning to a sustainable port. The organisers seek to explore what this means for the Netherlands and, more broadly, how the impacts of local history on a global scale can be understood.<\/p>\n<p>The event will start off with a talk by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uu.nl\/staff\/JWSchot\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Johan Schot<\/a>, Professor of Global History and Sustainability Transitions at the Utrecht University Centre for Global Challenge, followed by a panel of interdisciplinary scholars:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Johan Schot, Professor of Global History and Sustainability Transitions, an historian on the port of Rotterdam with a focus on global sustainability transitions.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uu.nl\/staff\/JRCox\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jana Cox<\/a>, Assistant Professor in Environmental Hydrology (Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development, Utrecht University), researching the (interacting) influence of human interventions and climate change on estuaries and river deltas with a specific focus on the Rhine-Meuse.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uu.nl\/staff\/GBuelens\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Geert Buelens<\/a>, professor of Modern Dutch Literature, researching cultural aspects of the Anthropocene and the Great Acceleration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The evening will be closes by a screening of the documentary <em>Een kano naar zee<\/em>, directed by Andre van der Hout (Dutch spoken, but subtitled in English).<\/p>\n<p>Participation in this event is free of charge, <strong>prior registration is however required<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"bttn\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/legacy-transitions-rotterdams-port-in-a-global-sustainability-context-tickets-1336396039529?aff=oddtdtcreator\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MORE INFO AND RESERVATION<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On 2 June 2025, the Deep Transitions Lab (supported by UGlobe and the Strategic Theme Institutions for Open Societies of Utrecht University), organises an event on the theme &#8216;Legacy and transitions: Rotterdam\u2019s port in a global sustainability context&#8217;, addressing both its history and the challenges it faces in transitioning to a sustainable port.
