The N.W. Posthumus Institute is committed to:
- creating a joint community of Dutch and Flemish scholars in which academic excellence is fostered and scholars, both junior and senior, can grow to achieve high academic potential
- educating the next generation of economic and social historians
- promoting innovative and advanced interdisciplinary research in economic and social history
The NWP aims to do this by:
- offering a nation-wide high-level course progamme for RMA (equivalent to MPhil) and PhD students
- stimulating close cooperation by bringing together junior and senior scholars in interuniversity joint research networks
- encouraging acquisition of large research programmes through indirect government funding
- defining quality indicators to meet international publication standards and the standards of the regular quality assessments
By joining forces and means through the Posthumus Institute, participating universities and research institutes are able to offer their Posthumus students a far wider range of information and expertise than could be offered by single institutions.
